As our two week Velomobile tour to Dresden was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we decided instead to do a short tour with the trikes.
The plan was to drive to Gerolstein and take the bikes from the car there (our start point). Then Helen would drive the car to Cochem (our potential end point) and get the bus or train from Cochem back to Gerolstein. This would save taking the trikes on the train.
Cochem is in a good position on the Mosel so if we wanted to ride further we could always get a train back to Cochem to pick up the car and then drive to pick up the trikes.
This was all planned just four days before we would be leaving – it was really a last-minute idea as Klaus only bought his trike two days before that.
I have toured on the Mosel twice, first in 2009 and then in 2010, so it will be nice to return after 10 years. Klaus has not cycled on the Mosel at all, and neither of us have experienced the Kylltal (recommended to me by chum Olaf many years ago).
Daily reports of the trip are below:
Day 1: Kempen to Gerolstein
Day 2: Gerolstein to Trier
Day 3: Trier to Bernkastel-Kues
Day 4: Bernkastel-Kues to Cochem
Day 5: Rest day in Cochem
Day 6: Cochem to Koblenz
Day 7: Koblenz to Cochem to Kempen
